Lot 1038

1794 S-48 R5 Starred Reverse. VG-8. Sharpness VF20 with light corrosion covering all but the highpoints, which are smooth, plus a half dozen shallow pitmarks on the upper half of the reverse. Traces of shallow reddish verdigris are visible under magnification, but it not a distraction. The only contact marks are a few light rim bruises on the reverse, including three tiny ones at UNITED and one more at AM. Sharply struck EDS with all the stars visible except for the upper half of two stars affected by the rim bruise at AM. Slightly glossy dark chocolate with light to medium brown toning covering the highpoints. The two-tone appearance accents the details and enhances the eye appeal of this important cent.
Estimated Value $15,000 - 18,000.
