Fairo, J. (Italian, 19th century). "Bust of a Woman", c. 1890. White metal casting, bronze plated; integral signature on back: "J. Fairo." This beautiful young woman's delicate features, coiffed and draped in the charm of an earlier gilded age, and edged with a certain aloofness or hauteur, add up to making this one of the most popular works of the artist. She can be seen in a number of casting editions, with varied finishes. Intact and very fine; the bronze thinning slightly in areas along the back. Height: 14-1/4".
