Sculpted Figure in Ivory -- of Japanese Ethnic Interest. Japan, c. 1950's-1960's. Image of a mature man, probably a Shinto priest, who holds a lengthy phallic implement. Man in elaborately patterned and embroidered kimono, lovingly detailed on the sculpture. He holds fenestrated basket over head, as if putting on a hat. Carving enhanced with brown and reddish coloring, with touches of gilding. Height: 6"; on custom wood base.
