Hibel, Edna (American, b. 1917). Vanya's Family. Charming maternal scene, rendered in agitated, impressionistic strokes -- the colors and added gold highlights mirroring the exotic Central Asian textile tradition, seen on the garments of the young mother and her two children. Signed lower right; edition no. "I 136 / 186 ed. 353."; image size: 26" x 13-1/2", on heavy water color sheet.

Edna Hibel was born in Boston, and educated at the Boston Museum School of Fine Arts, from 1935-39. In 1942, she was honored with the Sturtevant Traveling Fellowship to Mexico. Of her art, she eventually specialized in prints and serigraphy. She often hand enhances her original stone lithographs, serigraphs and giclees with pastels, oil paint, gold leaf, pencil, ink, conte crayon and charcoal.
Estimated Value $400 - 600.
