William S. Hart - Etching by Frank Martin. 19" x 14½" (plate size is 12" x 9½"), no. 4 of 15. Signed by the artist in pencil. Framed to an overall size of 21" x 16½". Hart was the first silent Western matinee idol. Between 1914 and 1924, he appeared in or produced more than sixty movies.

Frank Martin (1921- 2005) was a British artist and illustrator known for his wood engravings and prints of early glamorous Hollywood stars. By working with the grain of the wood, he made screen stills into prints of Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Clara Bow and other Silver Screen stars. His etchings and woodcuts have been collected by celebrities such as Elton John and Michael Caine.
