Constance Bennett - Etching by Frank Martin. 26¼" x 17¾" aquatint in color (plate is 17" x 12"), no. 1 of 40, titled "Constance Bennett in 1924," signed by the artist in pencil. Framed to an overall size of 25½" X 20½". The glamorous, business-minded Bennett was from an acting family (daughter of Richard and sister of Joan). She was one of the few silent stars to make the transition to talkies.
Frank Martin (1921- 2005) was a British artist and illustrator known for his wood engravings and prints of early glamorous Hollywood stars. By working with the grain of the wood, he made screen stills into prints of Jean Harlow, Greta Garbo, Clara Bow and other Silver Screen stars. His etchings and woodcuts have been collected by celebrities such as Elton John and Michael Caine.
