Garbo, Greta. Original pen caricature by Oscar Berger signed in pencil by Miss Gargo at lower right and in pen by Berger, 12¾" x 8¾", no place, no date. Drawn on thin art paper and portraying Miss Garbo in a vampy dress, accepting the loving attention of a suitor (probably conductor Leopold Stokowski, given the musical note in his bow tie); he holds a large bunch of flowers. Very good; minor paper loss in upper corners, affecting nothing, one horizontal fold and light creasing. Oscar Berger (1901-?) was a world-famous Czech artist who got kicked out of Germany when Hitler didn't like Berger's caricatures of him. He drew caricatures of world-famous personalities such as Winston Churchill, Presidents Roosevelt, Truman, and Kennedy, and movie celebrities such as Greta Garbo and Buster Keaton. He would sign the caricature himself and have the celebrity sign.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,500.
