Messerschmidt, Willy (1898-1978) German aircraft designer and manufacturer. The BF 109, designed in 1934 by Messerschmidt with Walter Rethel, became the most important fighter in the German Luftwaffe. Messerschmitt's BF 209 held the world speed record for propeller-driver aircraft for decades. PS in blue ink below the wing of the plane, 11¾" x 15¾", n.p., n.d. Fine. The plane that is pictured is an experimental, rocket-driven plan that was tested toward the end of World War II.
