Rare US Army Model 1882 Artillery Officer's Picklehaube Helmet. The body in leather trimmed black felt with thick gold bullion braided cord and tassels about the front, sides and rear. The crown fitting, plume holder and high relief eagle helmet plate of the artillery in gilt brass. Gilt artillery buttons at the sides and a small gilt federal shield at back. The liner in tan leather and with an inside top brass retainer for the plume holder marked "Raymond & Whitlock." Also present is the rare original plumage of red dyed ostrich feathers. Overall very good condition for this rare and impressive American style picklehaube in use ca. 1882-1901.
