Gavin, James M (1907-1990) Commanding Officer of the 82nd Airborne Division that jumped in Normandy on D-Day, 1944; known as the "Jumping General"; he was the youngest U.S. General in World War II; he served as U.S. minister to France after his retirement from the military. Official U.S. Army PS, date-stamped on verso "22 January 1958", 10" x 8". With TLS on personal letterhead, 1p, 8½" x 6¼', 1969 Aug. 11, to Douglas C. Platt, enclosing the signed photograph.
