Gallatin, Albert (1761-1849) Swiss-born American statesman and diplomat; longest serving U.S. Secretary of the Treasury (1801-1814). ALS as U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, 1½pp (recto/verso), with free-franked holograph address leaf, 9¾" x 7¾", Wasahington, 1812 June 26. To Caesar A. Rodney (1772-1824), nephew of the Signer of the Declaration of Independence, regarding compensation due the estate of his father, Thomas Rodney, for Thomas' services as one of the U.S. Commissioners on lands west of the Pearl River in 1806. Fine; overall toning; seal tear on address leaf does not affect the address panel with the free frank.
