Bonaparte, Josephine de Beauharnais (1763-1814) Empress of the French (1804-1809) as the first wife of Napoleon I. LS ("Josephine"), in French, 1p, 4½"x7¼", Navarre, 1811 Aug. 7. To Monsieur Leyraud, Minister of Finance, asking a favor for a retired captain who would like to make himself useful in a job as collector or tax inspector of a town. Josephine highly recommends the captain and takes the opportunity to assure M. Leyraud of her fondness for him. Very fine. Matted with an image of Josephine and framed to an overall size of 21"x18".
