Lot 398

Great Britain. Crown, ND. S.2761. Charles I, 1625-1649. Tower Mint under Parliament. Group 4. Mint mark (R) over (P) both sides. King upon foreshortened horse. Reverse Oval shield of arms. Extremely rare mint mark (the rarest of the Parliament mint marks.) and a nice grade for this (normally) poorly made coin. Lightly toned, some natural 'stretch line' in the flan, around the horse, but nicely round, well centered and with all design and lettering well struck up. Struck in the middle of the Civil war. Historically very important. NGC graded VF-30.
Estimated Value $1,800 - 2,200.
The Dr. Robert Hesselgesser Collection.

Realized $1,740
