1888 $1 Gold Indian. PCGS graded Proof 65 Cameo PQ. Well struck with a hint of light gold tone. Very choice. The surfaces are radiant and each side has a nice veneer of mirror-smooth patina that whips and tosses as it alternates between lighter and darker shades. A glass picks out the typical orange peel effect of this mirror reflectivity. No need to worry about an unsuccessful strike left by the rebound of the dies that coined this, since even a cursory examination of the piece reveals nice clarity of detail, including the centers. Easily recoginzed as a first-class Gem. Only 1,079 Proofs struck. Pop 8; 3 finer in 66. (PCGS # 87638) .
