1856-S/S $1 Gold Indian. ANACS graded AU-58. Nice strike and lightly toned. There is a shallow area in the planchet below RIC on the obverse, and a few small marks consistent with coins of this period and grade range. The Type 2 Indian heads include several common issues (1854, 1855), a couple of dandy rarities (1855-D, 1856-D), and this mid-range scarce 1856-S, as the only S-mint in the short 1854-56 run of dates and mints that comprise the small Indian head style. A must for any date collector (PCGS # 7536) .
Estimated Value $3,500 - 3,700.
