Lot 2692

1916 Liberty Standing Quarter Dollar. NGC graded MS-63 Full Head. Intensely lustrous, unusual for this date, with lovely delicate light golden highlights. Important first year and the key date to the series. A very respectable Choice example of the quality one likes to see for this actively collected Type 1 rarity. As with other 1916 quarters in Mint condition, sleek velvety luster blends naturally with the toning highlights on the satin surfaces. Oddly enough, 1916 is a distinct variety, for when the mint switched to coining 1917-dated pieces, it introduced a noticeably modified master hub. Collectors, however, acquire the 1916 not for this reason but for its fame, rarity and low mintage (52,000 pieces). We expect bidders to react by placing numerous, rising bids. Pop 31; 105 finer. (PCGS # 5704) .
Estimated Value $17,000 - 19,000.
