Lot 2532

1916-S Buffalo Nickel. PCGS graded MS-66. Nice bold strike. The most desirable grades among survivors of this S-mint delivery are above MS65, but then they are usually all but unobtainable. Nevertheless, a Mint State 66 example is what this marvelous specimen is; while not to be cataloged as "rare" per se, the coin is almost worthy of that description. It has an above average strike, is sharply defined including (not excluding) the detail over the bison's highpoints such as the shoulder, head and horn, rear-end muscle structure and split tail end. The eye appeal just gets better and better, and is the feature that is most precisely explained by a lack of outwardly distracting blemishes or spotting. Glistening satin luster to be sure, with a touch of toning iridescence making for an attractive condition-rarity. Pop 28; 4 finer in 67 (PCGS # 3933) .
Estimated Value $4,000 - 4,500.

Realized $5,060
