Lot 2382

1855 N-8 R2. NGC graded MS-66 Brown. Lustrous bluish steel brown with 10% of the mint color remaining on both sides. The surfaces are satiny and very attractive, the luster extending over even the highest points of the design. The only defects, and they are barely visible, are a small nick hidden in the hair over the R in LIBERTY, one close over the right top of the N in CENT, a small spot of shallow carbon hidden in the leaves left of the O in ONE and another equally well hidden spot in the leaves under the first A in AMERICA. Nicely struck E-MDS, die state a. A beautiful cent with gem eye appeal. EAC grade MS63 and tied for finest known honors.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,250.
Ex R. S. Brown, Jr., McCawley & Grellman Auctions/Superior 6/2/2002:1415.
