Lot 2305

1847 N-12 R3 Repunched 8. NGC graded MS-65 Brown. Frosty steel brown with traces of mint color remaining on the reverse. The luster is a bit subdued from a thin layer of natural oxidation that could be brushed away to bring out the underlying luster. The only marks are a light diagonal nick in the field before the mouth and a bit of dirt in the center of star 13. Late die state, die state c, with a strong rim cud right of star 9 plus smaller ones from star 12 down to below the date. Nicely struck except for the usual weakness on the coronet over LIB. The repunching inside the top of the 8 is sharp. EAC grade MS60 and tied for CC#4.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,250.
