Lot 2286

1844 N-3 R2 Repunched 18. MS-60. Very attractive satiny steel and light olive with faded mint color showing in protected areas, about 10% of the red remaining visible on the obverse. Great eye appeal. The only defects are a faint horizontal hairline scratch off the peak of the 1 and a spot of darker toning in the dentils at that same star. Sharply struck except for a low spot on the curls at the shoulder and minor weakness at the base of the 1 in the date (both caused by debris or grease on the die), and the two low spots keep this cent from a higher grade. E-MDS, die state b. Repunching shows clearly at the bottoms of the 1 & 8 in the date. Tied for CC#8.
Estimated Value $750 - 1,250.

Realized $891
