Lot 2086

1794 S-57 with date expertly reengraved as 1793. Good-4. The obverse is a bit better than the reverse, the G4 grade a compromise between the two sides. Rather glossy medium brown and chocolate. There is extremely fine roughness covering the fields and a dull scratch through the lower half of the wreath, but the eye appeal is decent for the grade. The date was very carefully reengraved to read "1793" and the work is suggestive of the "Smith Counterfeits" that are so popular among a segment of the large cent collecting fraternity.
Estimated Value $75 - 100.
