Transylvania. Ducat, 1579. Fr-284; Resch-14; Hess-142. 3.54 grams. 23.9 mm. Hermannstadt mint. Christoph Bathori, 1576-1581. St. Ladislas standing in full armor holding halbred. Leg: *MON*TRAN - S - IL*C*B*D*S. Reverse: Leg: PATRONA UNGARIE around seated madonna and child. Full mint brillance, well struck and very choice. NGC graded MS-64.

Transylvania, actually located in Western Romania, is immortalized through the strories of Dracula, who was probably the early medieval Count Vlad. When Turkey conquered Hungary in 1536, Transylvania became independent.
