Lot 4000

Bavaria. Ducat, ND. Fr-183. 3.43 grams. 21.25 mm. Albrecht V, 1550-1579. House of Wittelsbach. Obv. Bust left with hat and robes. Leg: +ALBERT9.COM.PA.R.BAVA.DV. Reverse: Quartered shield with the chain order of the Golden Fleece. Leg: SI DE9.NOBIS - QVI.COM.NOS. A lovely late renaissance portrait bust. Very Rare. NGC graded AU-58.

One of the great rarities of this collection. Albrecht was a strict Catholic who attempted to combat Protestantism in his duchy. He married Anne of Austria ending political antipathy between Bavaria and the Holy Roman Empire. He essentially bankrupted the treasury due to mismanagement, which resulted in few gold coins being struck.
Estimated Value $35,000 - 40,000.

Realized $42,550
