Russia. Alexander II, 1855-81. Undated (ca. 1873-81) AE Medal, 66.1mm, by Semenov signed "A.S." on obverse and P. Utkin. A Mining Institute Prize Medal from the series originally introduced in 1834 during the reign of Nicholas I. This die pairing is unlisted in Diakov, but it utilizes the obverse of Semenov's ca. 1873 Persian Shah St. Petersburg Mint Visit Medal, Diakov-803.1, and Utkin's reverse of Diakov-648.2, the similar but earlier issue Mining Institute medal with a younger bust of Alexander II. Some light spotting and minor discoloration, otherwise Extremely Fine.
