Lot 2810

Vespasian, A.D. 69-79. AE As, Rome mint, struck A.D. 71. . RIC-501 var. . H-unlisted. Laureate head right of Vespasian. Reverse: Victory standing left, erecting trophy; seated to left, mourning captive. Fine/Fine+.

This seemingly unpublished reverse type appears to have the standard mourning personification of Judaea seated to left, instead of lying to left, as RIC 501 describes. It is also a question of whether the figure is male or female. From the lack of drapery, the posture and head detail, this seems to be a male figure, rather than the normal draped female personification.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.

Realized $719
