Lot 2715

Charachmoba. Elagabalus, 218-222 C.E. AE 18. . Spij. 5. Mesh 275 (this coin). Laureate head right of Elagabalus. Reverse: Altar of Dusares approached by steps; sacred stones on altar; priest to right. Fine to Very Fine.

The coinage of Charachmoba (today's Kerak) was in production solely during the reign of Elagabalus (218-222 C.E.). It is one of the very rarest cities from which to have a numismatic representation. This one is particularly worthwhile because of its fascinating reverse type as well as its pedigree, being the illustrated example in Meshorer's book, City-Coins of Eretz-Israel and the Decapolis in the Roman Period.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,200.

Realized $863
