1876-S $20 Liberty. SEGS graded MS-64 T-2. Faint signs of cleaning a grade of MS-62 or 63 seems more appropriate but the overall appearance at first glance is one of such beauty and sleekness that it is easy to overlook the minor problem. Although having a largish mintage of 1,597,000 pieces, with extensive importation of coins long stored in foreign bacnks results in the 1876-S double eagle being plentiful in circulated grades as well as Mint State. Bowers estimates 2,000 to 3,000 available in Mint condition in his 2004 edition book on double eagles (PCGS # 8978) .
