Lot 1439

1879 Pattern Dime. Copper, reeded edge. . J-1585. . P-1778. PCGS graded Proof 64 Red High Rarity 6. Popular washlady head housed in an old green label holder. Nice red color. This is the oddly nicknamed and popular "Washlady" or Society Lady design described after the matronly female portrait on the obverse. Struck in copper with a reeded edge, the coin is a splendid Proof 64 example featuring mirrored obverse and reverse fields around lustrous devices. Both sides have wonderful brilliance. Like the silver version of this design, between 12 and 15 examples are believed to survive in copper. This example is most attractive. Pop 1; 2 in 66 RD, only 3 graded in total at NGC (PCGS # 81962) .
Estimated Value $8,000 - 9,000.

Realized $8,050
