Attractive South Italian Red Figure Lekythos. Magna Graecia, Apulia, c. 330-310 BC. Bottle with barrel-shaped body on molded circular foot, handle, and flaring applicator mouth. Vessel with glossy black glaze over red wash, and details in applied white and yellow. One side with head of a young lady of fashion holding a fan, her hair bound into a saccos with ribbons. The other side with large acanthus palmette. Intact and free of repairs, with scattered edge nicks, and minor areas of rubbed glaze. Height: 5-1/2".A pleasant example of this large mass-produced ware.
