Impressive and Opulent -- A Spectacular Victorian Silver Service. Service comprised of a partial set, consisting of: coffee or chocolate pot, a teapot, a creamer and a sugar bowl, the latter two with gilt interiors. The items consummately crafted by the family of London silversmiths, surnamed Bernard, who flourished in the 19th century. Their pieces dated 1842-43, and 1861-62. Each piece finely sculpted with floral sprays and arabesques, the handles formed as delightful woodland sprites, nearly resembling the classic "herm" of the ancient Greeks. Items fully hallmarked, with piece numbers: 099, 100, 146, and 147. Added to this is a truly ornate hot water kettle and warming stand, made by "AM," also London marks, and dating to 1878-79. On kettle, one cartouche engraved with heraldic emblem of coronet supporting winged globus cruciger. Rounding out lot,is a huge serving tray, silver plated, and initialed: LCA. This, and several others pieces re-initialed to L. & A. C in 1942. The Bernard-crafted pieces lightly used; the kettle and stand with more wear and polishing. Serving tray with typical use marks -- inspection suggested. Height of coffee pot: 12-1/4". Over 124 ounces of pure silver. Truly luxurious examples of the silversmith's art! Lot of 7 items.
Estimated Value $5,000 - 6,000.
