Mormon Newspaper From 1853 - Deseret News. Oct. 15, 1853, Great Salt Lake City, U[tah] T[erritory], Vol. 3, No. 19, 24" x 16", 2 pages (inner pages blank). Very good; several edge tears at folds; corner creas; toning at folds. Front page carries "A History of Joseph Smith" and a 3-column speech by President Brigham Young, addressing the fear and concern arising from Indian attacks. A Mormon Missionary update on the back page has news from the Sandwich Island (Hawaii), stating that they "now have over 600 Saints" (converts). A fascinating early Mormon newspaper.
