African-American Caricatures, c. 1830. Six hand-colored lithographs from a series, "Life in Philadelphia," by British cartoonist Edward Clay, published in London. Each image is approximately 7" x 6", on original mounts, with titles excised as usual; each displayed within individual board frames, measuring approximately 14" x 11". Fine; overall normal age-toning. These images lampoon life in Philadelphia, using African-Americans as subjects of mocking derision. An interesting and rare grouping.
