(Seward William H (1801–1872) Governor of New York and United States Secretary of State under Abraham Lincoln and Andrew Johnson. On April 14, 1865, the same night that John Wilkes Booth fatally wounded President Abraham Lincoln, Seward was stabbed numerous times by Lewis Powell, an associate of Booth's. Seward survived but carried the scars for the rest of his life. Bust engraved "W. Seward," and with the artist's name, "Emile Guillem," c. 1861-1872. 8¾" high, 4¾" wide on a 3¼" square base. A few dings to bust; more to base.
