Lot 931

1817/3 Capped Bust Half Dollar. VF-20. One of the dag-gondest silly overdates in American numismatics. This 1813 was pressed into service probably because of the mint fire in 1816, which crippled the rolling mills for over a year. Heightened chaos must have reigned during this time. Smoky gray toning in the fields, lighter devices give this coin an excellent appearance. Hairlines, endless hairlines, as seen on virtually every bust half.

Realized $265
