Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 4

Lot 1937

1850 $20 Liberty. Sharpness of AU-55. Some satiny surface and glitter remains on this coin, but it has some problems. Light hairlines show a simple cleaning, but this isn't all that objectionable. Bagmarks are of the normal sort and number for a slightly circulated double eagle. Rims are clear and strike is fine. The problem, really, is some planchet flaws from the mint. One is to the left of the date, and a few more blackish areas of porosity are on the upper reverse. Still, this is an 1850 Twenty, the first date made for commerce, and always popular as such.

Realized $978
