Lot 183

1864 Indian Head Cent. Bronze, no "L". NGC graded Proof 64 Red and Brown. A choice proof coin that boasts ample mint-fresh surfaces and most of the original red color. The Philadelphia Mint kept tinkering with the cent in 1864, they started off making copper-nickel pieces, then changed to this bronze planchet (which was used until 1982) then in late 1864 they finally added a tiny "L" on the Indian's ribbon for the coins designer J.B. Longacre. Here is one of the middle issues, made before the "L" was added. Scarce in proof.

Realized $2,415
