Lot 1074

Important 1866-S No Motto Half Dollar. MS-60. One of the rarities of the series, the 1866-S No Motto half dollar deserves its great price because of its extreme rarity. Only 60,000 were struck, most spent, lost, melted, eaten by dogs or lost by children. Here is one of the few mint state coins to have survived. Frosty luster abounds and the surfaces show only minimal hairlines or signs of handling. There is a scrape in the field above Liberty's arm, and the surfaces are untoned. A foremost rarity in high grade, and no doubt this is from some of the more famous collections that have been formed over the decades, as only a couple exist in mint state. Why not add it to your collection today?

Realized $2,760
