1860 Liberty Seated Half Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 64. Of the even thousand Proofs made this year, not many could retain this piece's eye appeal. It is starkly "brilliant silver" in color and truly beautiful as such. Faint tiny hairlines show simply because there is nowhere for them to hide--not a hint of toning. The cataloguer has seen many thousands of Seated half dollars, some flawless, some spectacularly toned, but not a one of them delighted him more than this coin. Many of its brothers, of course, perished during the great war that spanned from 1861 to 1865.
