Lot 939

1864 Indian Head Cent. Bronze, with "L". NGC graded MS-64 Brown. Well struck with traces of mint red. A resplendent tawny dark brown to faded red specimen with increasingly deep carmine overtones in the field. Among the choicer 1864-L cents available today, and a solid MS64 made with obvious controlled precision throughout the key design areas such as the ribbon band with LIBERTY, the feathers (each with full sharp vanes), and not overlooking either a crisp, clear wreath on the reverse. The small L from which this coin gets its recognition stands for Longacre, the man who designed the Indian cent. It can be found below the last feather in the headdress.
Estimated Value $450 - 500.

Realized $426
