Lot 265

1794 Liberty Cap Cent. . S-55, R2. VF-30. Ten points sharper in most areas, but the strike is uneven, strong everywhere except at the bottom of the obverse and top of the reverse. The date is weak but easily readable and everything else is clear. The surfaces are glossy and attractive, but there is extremely faint roughness under the glossy dark chocolate patina. Traces of frosty luster remain in protected areas of the reverse. No contact marks. A couple tiny planchet chips right of the D in UNITED can help identify this cent. MDS, Breen state II. Called EF40 net VF30 and tied for CC#11 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF40 net VF25 and tied for CC#11 as well, his photo #37438.
Estimated Value $2,000 - 4,000.
Ex Oscar J. Pearl, Numismatic Gallery FPL 1944, lot 28-Robert S. Carter, Jr.-Tom Reynolds FPL #86, 10/96-Jack Wadlington.
