Lot 257

1793 Liberty Cap Cent. . S-13, R4-. VF-30. Glossy dark steel brown and chocolate with medium brown toning in protected areas of the reverse. Smooth surfaces that are free of any hint of corrosion, but there is some loose dirt caked into a couple of the protected areas of the reverse. The only defects are a few light nicks on the obverse, including several in the field below the cap and a small but relatively fresh one in the field left of the cap. Nicely struck very slightly off center to the left, but all the border beads remain on the planchet. EAC grade VF20 and very attractive at that level, especially for a Liberty Cap '93. Noyes photo #34912. The Hesselgesser provenance is noted on the PCGS label. Only 3 graded at PCGS in all grades of VF, none graded higher.
Estimated Value $20,000 - 40,000.
Ex Dr. Hesselgesser.

Realized $66,125
