Lot 2401

1867 $10 Liberty. PCGS graded MS-61. Well struck with light golden toning. Reflective surfaces. Only 3,090 pieces struck. The surfaces on this handsome coin are judged by us to be warm orange-gold in color, and quite lustrous, with the prooflike surface abetting its already outstanding Mint State quality. Almost unheard of in Mint State, don't expect the usual halfhearted impression left by the striking of the (sometimes worn) dies that made this piece, either, for we are pleased to report the opposite is true. This is a very bold coin with sharp centers including hair curls, hair bun, and full detail in the beaded hair cord Liberty wears. There are some lightly scattered marks on both sides, but none affecting the overall beauty, none which disturb the important rims either. All in all a very respectable acquisition for any advanced collector of rare U.S. gold eagles. PCGS number 22100633. The finest graded 1867 mint state example. Pop 1; none finer at PCGS. (PCGS # 8651) .
Estimated Value $25,000 - 30,000.
