Lot 1927

1951-S Carver-Washington Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-67. Sea-green and golden hues on both sides. Conditionally rare, this important coin is at the top of the third-party grading scale for the issue. Both sides are richly toned in speckled cobalt-blue and medium-gold shades through which full, frosty mint luster shines at all angles. Exceptionally well preserved by the standards of this type, the surfaces are smooth and free of grade-limiting abrasions. A definite find for the advanced collector or investor who specializes in Commemorative coinage. To perpetuate the memories of these two prominent black Americans, the Philadelphia, Denver and San Francisco Mints struck Carver/Washington Commemorative Half Dollars for four years from 1951 through 1954. The first-year 1951-S was produced to the extent of just 10,004 pieces and, like all issues of this type, it can be a very difficult coin to locate without numerous marks. Pop 8; 1 finer in 67 Star. (PCGS # 9432) .
Estimated Value $1,000 - 1,200.
