Lot 1904

1921 Alabama Half Dollar, no 2 x 2. NGC graded MS-65. A gem! The obverse displays lovely rose toning. The reverse is frosty white. Warm golden reddish with steel-blue and natural gray accents exhibit strong cartwheel luster flowing upwards. The satin, gem quality luster is what really engages the aesthetic sense with its serene beauty. Twenty-two stars underlying the overlapping portraits of Bibb and Kilby on the Alabama commemorative. This is the version without the "2X2" in the field at right. A scarce acquisition for any advanced collector of U.S. commemorative coins.

The Alabama commemoratives, designed by Laura Gardin Fraser, were offered first during President Harding's visit to Birmingham in October 1921.
Estimated Value $1,600 - 2,000.

Realized $1,495
