Lot 1887

1928-S Peace Dollar. PCGS graded MS-65. Near immaculate satiny smooth luster with a hint of natural light rainbow toning surrounding the obverse borders. Peace dollar buyers are soon made aware that the '28-S may be more plentiful than its identically dated P-mint counterpart in an absolute sense, but because the typically offered survivor wins no awards for eye appeal, it is a daunting task to find one in Gem condition. Far finer than the usually encountered Mint State example, this lovely Gem neither lacks the luster nor is heavily abraded. Forsooth! both sides are extremely vibrant in the luster department with an enchanting frosty-textured surface that provides nice cartwheel effects. Uncleaned from top to bottom, the surfaces are free of all but a few stray abrasions like the little chattermark below Liberty's ear, limitations that are well within the parameters of the strict Mint State 65 designation. The strike is also praiseworthy for an S-mint Peace Dollar, while the detail is bold-to-sharp in all areas. A key condition rarity that could easily find its way into a PCGS Registry Set. Among the finest examples of this date. Pop 40; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 7374) .
Estimated Value $15,000 - 16,000.
