Lot 1495

1942 Liberty Walking Half Dollar. PCGS graded Proof 66. Old green holder. Nice white coin. Sharply struck throughout with excellent silvery luster in the mirrors on both sides. A flatteringly attractive Gem Proof. Following years of denials that full-mirror Proofs were possible with the Walking Liberty half dollar, the Philadelphia Mint finally released these lovely sparkling coins in 1936 after a 20 year hiatus when no Proofs were sold to collectors. Upon America's entry into World War II, Proof issuance ceased in 1942. It would not be resurrected again until 1950, long after the Walking Liberty design had ended (PCGS # 6642) .
Estimated Value $650 - 700.

Realized $661
