Lot 124

1795 Washington Grate Halfpenny with Large Buttons. . Br-1271. PCGS graded MS-63 Brown. Frosty chocolate brown with hints of bluish steel overtone in the fields and lustrous lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. Very sharply struck in all areas. The only defect is a fine hairline scratch in the field over the bust. Intermediate die state showing only a couple faint hairline cracks in the obverse legend. The reverse is rotated about 30 degrees CW on this example, and this unusual die alignment enabled the sharp strike. (Most of this variety have the reverse rotated about 20-25 degrees CCW, and those examples nearly always have strike weakness at the top of the head and at ON in LONDON.) PCGS population 40 with 21 finer.
Estimated Value $300 - 600.

Realized $776
