A Pair of Fine Reverse Paintings on Glass. China, c. early 20th century. The pictures were painted by deft hands, employing graceful poses and attractively modulated coloring. One shows a "woman's scene," a servant girl is bathing the child of her mistress, who sits on an unusual wire frame chair, a cup and an European-style teapot next to her. The second with youthful warrior figure before a rocky outcrop. The garments and sword of the nimbate(?) youth are richly enhanced with gold. Behind him, two children peer from behind a boulder, with a horse to the left among the shrubbery. Paintings exceptionally preserved, possibly in original vintage frames. Visible image: 23" x 15-1/2"; Frame: 25-1/2" x 18". Lot of 2 paintings.
Estimated Value $800 - 1,000.
