Leonardo DiCaprio Screen-Used Prop Spike Axe from "Gangs of New York". Prop spike axe with a retractable blade actually used by Leonardo DiCaprio as the lead character, Amsterdam Vallon, in the 2001 movie directed by Martin Scorsese. Set in 1863 New York, the movie also starred Daniel Day-Lewis and Cameron Diaz. It received ten Academy Award nominations and five Golden Globe awards. The axe is 28" long with the blade extended; it has a wooden handle (the round part is some sort of man-made material) wrapped in leather and an iron blade. The axe was acquired from the set, then sold at auction by Premiere Props. The rubber rehearsal axe recently brought $1100 at auction; this is the actual axe used during the movie. Acccompanied by a still from the movie showing DiCaprio holding the axe. With COA from Hollywood Prop Supply.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
