Horatio Nelson British Historical Bronze Medal. Rare, original Bristish historical medal, designed by Thomas Webb (signed "W" on the bust portrait in script) and struck in London in 1805 to commemorate the death of Lord Nelson at Trafalgaer. Approximately 2 1/8" in diameter. Extra fine. The front features a bare-head image of Nelson, facing left, and the words, "Hor Vicecom Nelson Ob Patriam Pugnando Mort Oct. XXI MDCCCV" [Lord Nelson Died Fighting for his Country Oct. 21, 1805). The reverse features a beautiful image of a winged goddess walking on the sea while a sailing ship is buffeted by waves in the background, and at the top, "Ipse Belli Fulmen" [He himself a thunderbolt of war]. We do not know the numerical designation assigned to this medal. In excellent condition with very light wear to the highest spots and some "dings" around the rim.
Estimated Value $500 - 600.
